Northland is favoured by anyone who loves aquatic activities. Northland is made up of 144 islands, the main activities being diving, boating, swimming and big game fishing. However, further inland there are native forests where there are hiking trails and short walks. Here you will find some of the oldest and largest trees in the world.If you want to go to the beach the most popular beaches in the region are Ninety-Mile beach, Doubtless Bay beaches and Bream Bay surf beaches. Some other natural attractions that are well worth a visit are Waipoua Forest, the Tutukaka Coast, Hokianga Harbour, Haruru Falls, Whangarei Falls and the Waiwera thermal baths.
Northland also has some interesting museums that include the Matakohe Kauri Museum, the Maritime Museum, in Dargaville and the Mansion House. If you would like to see some other historic sites in the region there is also Russell village, Kerikeri village the Treaty grounds in Waitangi and the Rainbow Warrior wreck, that you can go diving through.
